I didn't realize how much of my life I was spending waiting for the weekend.

After work, I would come home exhausted, drop everything, and convince myself that resting was the only thing I had energy for. And honestly? Sometimes it felt good. There’s nothing wrong with enjoying a quiet evening at home. But when every weekday started looking the same, I began to wonder if I was missing out on the little moments that make life exciting.

I started working part-time at 18 while finishing my last semester of school. After graduation, I began working full-time, and that’s when this routine slowly became my normal. I would either go straight home and count down to the weekend, lie in bed scrolling through social media, or, on a good day, watch a movie with a bag of popcorn. It became a routine that felt normal one I think many people can relate to.

But one day, something inside me shifted. I realized I didn't want to spend my twenties simply waiting for Friday to feel excited about life. I wanted to enjoy the days in between, too. I started looking for inspiration by watching YouTube videos about after-work routines and listening to podcasts about self-care and personal growth. One of my favourites is Mel Robbins.I’ve listened to so many of her podcast episodes, and they completely changed the way I think about my time outside of work. Little by little, I began creating a routine that made every day feel more meaningful.

Mondays, which I used to dread because they marked the beginning of another workweek, have become something I genuinely look forward to. Now they're my self-care day, a chance to slow down, recharge, and do something just for me.

Today, I no longer wait for Friday to have fun. I try to find joy in every day, whether it's trying something new, exploring a trail, meeting a friend, or simply making time for myself.

The weekends are still special, but now they feel like an extra bonus instead of the only thing I look forward to. Life is happening every day, and I don't want to miss it while waiting for the weekend.
